First LEGO LEague Tryouts
There are three components (Core Values, The Project & the Robot Game) to the FLL competition.
In order to expose the students to a similar environment, our tryouts will consist of three components as well.

Tryouts REQUIREMENTS:
ALL forms (click on the links below) must be completed and returned to Ms. Pennywell by September 6, 2019 in order to be considered.
1. Teacher Recommendation Form (homeroom teacher from 2018 - 2019 school year)
- If you are NEW! to Shakerag Elementary, feel free to email your child's former teacher and they can email me their responses.

3. Sign-Up and Attend Tryouts
4. Submit photo of a model created by LEGOs without the use of instructions AND/OR a video demonstrating knowledge of programming using LEGO Mindstorms. (Videos can be submitted via email using a hyperlink or students may bring their file on a usb drive.)

Tryouts (30 minutes):
Part 1: Building / LEGO Mindstorms Activity (5 minutes)
Participants will display their knowledge of the LEGO Mindstorms software and/or demonstrate their skill level in building with LEGO technic pieces.
Students must submit a video and/or photo of their work.
(Video and/or photo must be submitted by August 30, 2019)
Part 2: Team Building Activity (10 minutes)
Participants will be placed in groups of 3 or more. Each group will be given a challenge that will demonstrate how well they work with others.
Part 3: Project Presentation (5 minutes)
Using their creativity, participants will be given 30 - 45 seconds introduce themselves.

How many students will be chosen?
Shakerag Elementary will have one FLL team, the Robosharks. The team will consist of up to 10 members. Therefore, only 10 students will be chosen to be apart of our robotics teams. Teams are not allowed to have more than 10 members.
Who is able to try out?
Ages: 9 - 11 (Your child must be at least 9 years old to tryout)
Grade: 3rd - 5th
When will they know if they made the team?
Results will be provided no later than a week from the day of tryouts.
How are the team members chosen?
A rubric will be used to assess applicants during tryouts. The rubric will include the following categories:
- Teamwork
- Problem-Solving / Skills
- Creativity
If they make the team, when is the first meeting and how often will they meet?
